Overcoming the Three Great Tests of Luke 4

In the wilderness, the devil did not just offer Jesus “sin”; he offered him a “secular worldview.” He invited Jesus to think like a carnal man. By analyzing these temptations, we can identify the carnal traps that keep business leaders from entering their full Kingdom authority.

1. The Trap of the Belly: Sensual Gratification

The Carnal Temptation: “Tell this stone to become bread.”

The carnal man is enslaved to his immediate sensations. In business, this is the leader who is driven by “The Urgency of the Now.” If the bank account looks low or the market dips, the carnal response is panic-driven innovation.

  • The Carnal Flaw: Dependence on the physical realm for security. If the carnal leader cannot see the “bread,” they believe they are starving.

  • The Renewed Victory: Jesus proves that a leader’s true sustenance is the Word. When you are renewed, you can be in a physical “famine” but remain in spiritual “plenty.” Your business decisions are no longer reactions to hunger, but responses to Divine instruction.

2. The Trap of the Eye: The Lust for Power and Shortcuts

The Carnal Temptation: “I will give you all their authority and splendor… if you worship me.”

The carnal man is obsessed with the “Splendor”—the aesthetic of success, the titles, and the influence. The devil’s offer was a merger: “Give me your soul, and I’ll give you the market share.”

  • The Carnal Flaw: The belief that the end justifies the means. The carnal leader thinks, “I’ll just cut this one corner, or compromise this one value, so I can get to the top and ‘then’ do good for God.” * The Renewed Victory: Jesus recognizes that authority given by the devil is actually a form of slavery. The renewed leader knows that real authority is delegated by God, not negotiated with the world. You would rather have a small, God-owned business than a global empire with a “lease” owned by the enemy.

3. The Trap of the Mind: The Pride of Life and Validation

The Carnal Temptation: “Throw yourself down… for it is written, He will command his angels.”

This is the most subtle temptation: Religious Pride. The carnal man wants to “use” God to prove his own importance. He wants the spectacular, the dramatic, and the public validation of being “God’s Favorite.”

  • The Carnal Flaw: A need for public proof of private standing. The carnal leader uses their faith as a “marketing tool” or a “lucky charm” to ensure success without having to walk in obedience.

  • The Renewed Victory: Jesus refuses to “show off.” He is so secure in His identity that he doesn’t need a miracle to prove it. The renewed leader doesn’t need to post every blessing on social media to feel successful; they find their validation in the secret place of prayer.

The Contrast: Carnal vs. Renewed

The Temptation The Carnal Man’s Logic The Renewed Man’s Reality
The Stones “My survival depends on my ability to produce.” “My survival depends on God’s ability to provide.”
The Kingdoms “I must seize influence by any means necessary.” “I only want the influence God entrusts to me.”
The Temple “I need a sign to know God is with me.” “I have His Word; I need no further proof.”

Closing Thought for the Business Leader

The carnal man who entered the wilderness was hungry and vulnerable. The renewed man who left was a threat to the darkness. When you register for our program, we aren’t just teaching you how to balance books; we are teaching you how to starve the carnal man so the renewed leader can emerge. You cannot lead a Kingdom business with a carnal mind. It’s time for your wilderness transformation.
